Like most schools in the listening area, IKM-Manning students head back to class a week from tomorrow (Tuesday), and the staff is more than ready to dive into the 2022/23 school year. Summertime is when most districts complete major projects or renovations within the district, but Superintendent Trevor Miller says that was not the case this summer. However, that does not mean school officials were resting on their laurels. Instead, IKM-Manning leaders were working to develop a new long-term plan.
He adds that Greving will be presenting the results of that work to the school board at their Aug. 24 meeting. According to Miller, this new plan results from countless hours of meetings with input from parents, teachers, and community leaders and will guide the district for years to come.
Miller expects the plan to be finalized around the end of the fall semester. IKM-Manning had just one open position heading into the summer, but they could not fill it. Miller says teachers were prepared for this possibility and took the initiative to develop a plan among themselves on how they could cover that staffing shortage. Educators have been under increased pressure over the last two years due to COVID protocols. While things were mostly normal last year, 2022/23 should be a more traditional school year.
With only about a week left of summer break, Miller says they are ready to kick off the school year the best it can be.
IKM-Manning is hosting open houses for their students and families on Monday, Aug. 22 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the respective school buildings. To stay up to date with IKM-Manning events and activities, keep an eye on their website at ikm-manning.k12.ia.us/.
