Marvin Lampe of Carroll

Marvin “Barney” Lampe, 92 of Carroll, died Thursday evening, September 1, 2022, at his residence in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm. Music will be by Kathy Halbur. Lectors will be Danielle Lowery and Emily Lampe. Gift Bearers will be Sarah Dickson, Jessica Dickson, Amber Peters and Nicole Lampe. Eucharistic Minister will be Angela Bedel. Casket Bearers will be Bill Lampe, Eric Lampe, Scott Lampe, Cole Lampe, Lucas Lampe, Tanner Lampe, Michael Patzner, and Tyler Nickum. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the church.  Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the Lampe family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
The youngest child of Joseph and Elizabeth (Lampman) Lampe, Marvin Edward Lampe was born in Carroll, Iowa on August 15, 1930. He attended school through the 8 th grade and at age 14 began working for Schroeder Road Construction. On February 1, 1955, Marvin was united in marriage to Jeanette Willenborg at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning. Together they raised 11 perfect children.
Following their marriage, Barney attended barber school in Omaha, working for a few years before returning to Carroll. He continued to give haircuts in his barber chair in the basement. Barney was part owner of the Arcadia Recreation, bar and bowling alley. He later worked for Gene Huelshorst Painting until his retirement.  Going to the casino was one of Barney’s favorite pastimes, particularly Las Vegas. He also enjoyed trips to Branson, but his favorite place was to be sitting on the front porch of the house he lived in for 47 years.
Barney was an honest and fair man who you could always count on to be the life of the party. He always said he die without having a single enemy, to which he succeeded. He could have a conversation with anyone. Barney will be most remembered for his always joking personality and his love of beer.
Survivors include his children: Rick (Mary) Lampe of Fair Grove, MO, JoAnn (Mark) Patzner of Carroll, Marilyn Dickson of Carroll, Barb Lampe of Carroll, Jim (Marvel) Lampe of Sevierville, TN, John Lampe of Fair Grove, MO, Sue (Mark) Nickum on Milo, Mark (Abby) Lampe of West Des Moines, Tom Lampe of Fair Grove, MO, and Bill Lampe of Carroll; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Lampe of Jefferson, GA; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his sister, Isabelle Dentlinger of Denison; his brother-in-law, Leo (Darlene) Willenborg of Manning; his sisters-in-law, Ardella Willenborg of Manning, Norma Willenborg of Omaha, NE and Elaine Huelshorst of Carroll; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jeanette; his son Joe Lampe in 2017; his brothers: Clarence (Bertha) Lampe, Albert (Margaret) Lampe, Herman (Sally) Lampe, Joseph (Helen) Lampe; his sisters: Pauline Lampe and Dorothy (Hilbert) Meister; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Al Dentlinger, Bernice (Toby) Naber, Henry Willenborg Jr., Marvin Willenborg, and Gene Huelshorst.
