The Carroll County Board of Supervisors is moving forward with plans for a nearly half-million-dollar bridge replacement project about two miles southwest of Lidderdale. According to County Engineer Zac Andersen, the bridge in question is on Phoenix Avenue between 170th and 180th Streets and spans Storm Creek. He says the aging bridge is slated for replacement in the current fiscal year. It is unclear what year the bridge was first installed, but Andersen estimates it is likely more than 100 years old. Because of its historic nature, the county will explore potential options for repurposing the bridge.
Cost estimates show the project’s total around $465,000, which would broaden the crossing and allow much heavier loads to traverse Storm Creek. District 3 Supervisor Gene Meiners pointed out that is more than $100,000 more than the last bridge replacement the county completed, which was very similar in size and scope. Andersen says that has been the trend in recent months.
The supervisors voted unanimously to move forward with bid-letting for the bridge replacement on Phoenix Avenue. They are tentatively scheduled to award bids later this year with construction likely slated for spring of 2023.
