Dennis Berg Of Arcadia

Dennis Berg, age 90, of Arcadia, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, at Addington Place in Carroll, surrounded by family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2022, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder.  Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes.  Music will be by Sharon Bierl and the St. John’s Choir.  Lectors will be Russ Berg and Ryan Berg.  Gift Bearers will be Hallie Berg and Breanna Thielen. Casket Bearers will be grandsons Jeremey Berg, Jeff Ludwig, Collin Berg, Matthew Berg, Bryce Berg, and Jacob Berg.  Honorary Casket Bearers will be grandchildren Ashley Michael, Kelli Avery, Evan Berg, Olivia Berg, Alison Berg, Casey Berg, Ben Berg and Kyle Berg.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors conducted by the Arcadia American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a Rosary prayed at 7 p.m.  There will be no visitation prior to the Funeral Mass on Friday.

Born on November 9, 1931, Dennis was the son of Frank and Clara (Petersohn) Berg and the oldest of 3 siblings.  He grew up on a farm near Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School.
On November 16, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marilyn (Stangl) Berg at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel.  The couple made their home west of Arcadia.  In 1983 the couple moved to their family farm east of Arcadia.
Dennis served in the Army during the Korean war from February 1953 – September 1954 and was stationed in Germany.  After the Army, Dennis joined his father Frank working on the family farm. He also held part-time jobs with Bob’s Electric, Arcadia Farmers Cooperative and Roselle Mutual Insurance.  He was a dedicated farmer, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He enjoyed watching baseball, traveling, polka dancing and watching his children and grandchildren in their athletic events.  Dennis was a member of St. John’s Parish and the Arcadia American Legion.
Left to celebrate Dennis’s life are his eight children and their spouses: Deb (Roger) Ludwig of Breda, Rich (Kristie) Berg of Ames, Russ Berg of Woodstock, IL, Karen (Jim) Thielen of Coggon,  Rob (Bonnie) Berg of Ankeny, Roger (Kathy) Berg of Carroll, Rod (Angie) Berg of Carroll, and Ryan (Courtney) Berg of Storm Lake; 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; his brother Darrell (Pat) Berg of San Jose, CA and sister Diane Olerich of Wall Lake; his sister-in-law Arlene Stangl of Carroll, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn (Stangl) Berg, his parents Frank and Clara (Petersohn) Berg, his brother-in-law Richard Olerich, and Marilyn’s six brothers and 5 sisters.
