Beginning tomorrow (Thursday) night at the Carroll 5 Fridley Theatre, the story of legendary University of Iowa football player, Nile Kinnick, debuts for local audiences. The 90-minute documentary, titled “Kinnick: The Documentary,” is produced by Mt. Carmel native and Iowa Nice Guy Scott Siepker. While Kinnick is most well-known for his prowess on the gridiron, Siepker says the feature-length film focuses more on the man off the field. Kinnick grew up in Adel and attended the University of Iowa, becoming the only Hawkeye to win the Heisman Trophy in 1939. Siepker says most Iowans know at least a little about Kinnick’s life, but the documentary delves much deeper.
The film is currently available to purchase and stream on Vimeo, an online video platform. A link to that page can be found included with this story on our website. Initially, it was scheduled to screen at just one theatre in central Iowa, but Siepker says the response from audiences has been so positive that they are expanding.
The first showing at the Carroll theatre is Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., and Kinnick: The Documentary is scheduled to run through Thursday, Sept. 15. The full interview with Siepker can be found included with this story on our website. Siepker will be available at Kerp’s Tavern in Carroll following Thursday’s showing to take questions and discuss the film’s development.
