Gas Outpaced Diesel As Fuel Prices Trickle Lower Over The Last Week

According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa, gasoline and diesel prices are down slightly from last week. As of Wednesday, Sept. 7, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.43 across the state, an eight-cent drop from the previous week but 44 cents higher than a year ago. The national average for gasoline stood at $3.76, also an eight-cent decline. Iowa diesel prices dipped four cents over the last seven days to a statewide average of $4.91 per gallon. A year ago, diesel in Iowa averaged just $3.10. The gap between Iowa and national diesel prices has trimmed to just 14 cents, with the national average now at $5.05 per gallon. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged at $2.16 per gallon. Natural gas prices plunged $1.31 at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently at $7.85 per MMBtu.
