Maxine LaVonne Smouse

Maxine LaVonne Smouse, age 99, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Pastor Bobbi Maltas officiating. Casket bearers will be Maxine’s grandchildren. Burial will be in the Coon Rapids Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 5 – 7 P.M. The casket will be moved to the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids on Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. where visitation will resume until 9:55 A.M. prior to the service.

Maxine was born on November 14, 1922 on her family’s farm 8 miles north of Coon Rapids, IA, and she was the daughter of Loren and Goldie (Brown) Dobson. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Coon Rapids. Maxine was married to Harold Smouse on July 4, 1941 in Kenmore, New York. The couple lived in Kenmore for four years while Harold worked for Bell Helicopter and they moved back to Coon Rapids in 1945. Maxine did cleaning for several families and helped Harold with their business Smouse General Service. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids and the Rebekah Lodge. Maxine and Harold were active with the Apple Dumpling Gang for many years. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Maxine is survived by her son Ronald Smouse (Pamela) of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Loren and Goldie Dobson; father and mother-in-law Donald and Emma Smouse; two sisters: Verna Schumacher (Carl) and Margaret Dobson; her brother Arnold Dobson (Shirley); her husband Harold in 2015; son Larry Smouse in 2001; and a daughter Linda Jean in infancy.
