Votes in the Ar-We-Va Community School District have approved a new Public Education and Recreation levy (PERL). The new levy is 13.5 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. According to the Crawford County Auditor’s Office, the measure passed with 71.8 percent of votes in favor and 28.2 opposed. Superintendent Jeff Kruse says this vote only needed a simple majority. Kruse adds one of the first areas they want to look at with PERL is the elementary playground.
Kruse says one of the requirements with this levy is it has to be available to the community at no charge.
Kruse adds he is excited the voters passed the levy because this is an essential resource the district and community can use.
The Arcadia poll in Carroll County recorded 83 votes in total, 55 for and 28 against the levy, while Crawford County saw 146 ballots cast with 108 in favor and 36 not in favor.
