The Carroll Merchants season wrapped up a couple of months ago, and today (Thursday), they announced the new coaches for the 2023 season. Chris Whitaker, General Manager of the Merchants, says he is excited to announce the new coaches.
Ben Berg is a Kuemper Catholic Alum and currently plays college baseball at Concordia University in Seward, Neb. This past summer, he was an assistant coach at Johnston Highschool, one of the state’s strongest Class 4A baseball programs. Ryan Picard is from Texas and is the Assistant Baseball and Football Coach at Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District in West Columbia, Texas. Whitaker says Berg and Picard started talking a week ago about the team.
Last season the Merchants were voted into the M.I.N.K League, which consists of teams from Iowa and Missouri.
Whitaker says everything starting now puts them in a better position for the 2023 season. The average attendance at Merchants Park last season was almost 475 fans per game. The full interview with Whitaker can be found included with this story on our website.
