Gene was born on April 21, 1965 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of John “Mac” and Ruth (Obman) Liechti. He grew up in Arcadia and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He graduated from Ar-We-Va High School in 1983. He was married to Julie Schroeder on June 29, 1990 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Gene was affectionately known by family and friends as Hoss. Trucking was his life. He began driving a semi out of high school for Liechti Brothers Trucking. He also drove for G&R Trucking before becoming an owner/operator in 1990 and continued to present day. In August of 2018, exactly 50 years to the day, Gene and his brother Roger purchased the original site of Arcadia Livestock and Liechti Brother’s Trucking. After 28 years, he finally got his shed. He loved to grill and was especially known for his soy sauce marinated ribeye steaks along with a few “Diet Pepsi’s”. Gene was very close to his brothers John and Roger. He was a mentor to his nephews and many others. Gene served for many years on the Arcadia Cemetery board. In his rare moments of spare time, he enjoyed going to truck shows, playing Solitaire on the computer, watching Hogan’s Heroes, and driving around Arcadia.
