Helen Jane Hannasch, age 90, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022 with her two daughters at her side.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Kevin Richter as Celebrant. Music will be Jane Heithoff and Kathleen Macke. Lector for the Mass will be Dr. Sheryl Jackson. Eucharistic Minister will be Tom Kollasch. Gift bearers will be Nancy and Mike Schultes. Burial will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Maple River.
Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church from 9:30 – 10:45 A.M. on Monday prior to the Mass.

Helen was born on November 23, 1931 on her family’s farm near Lidderdale, IA, and she was the daughter of Nick and Hilda (Van Erdewyck) Loew. Her family moved to Vail, IA, when she four years old and she graduated from St. Ann’s Catholic High School in 1949. She attended the Ellis School of Cosmetology in Sioux City graduating in 1950. She returned to Carroll and purchased Florence Schrad’s beauty shop. Helen sold that shop when she married Edwin Tigges in 1953 and they had two daughters: Geri and Jane. They made their home on a farm west of Maple River where she operated Helen’s Beauty Shoppe in her home. Edwin passed away in 1980 and Helen was later married to Donald Hannasch in 1982. Don and Helen resided in Maple River and she continued operating the beauty shop in her home considering her clients family. Don passed away suddenly in 2017 and Helen moved to Garden View in Carroll in 2018. She was a devoted and faithful Catholic belonging to St. Francis of Assisi, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and St. John Paul II Parishes. Helen enjoyed crocheting, playing Bridge, happy hour, and most of all spending time with her family and many good friends.
Helen is survived by her daughters and their families: Geri Goodwin (Rocky) of Omaha, NE, and Jane Christiansen (Scot) of Edgewood, IA; four grandchildren: Katie Goodwin, Scott Goodwin, Carl Christiansen (fiancé Betsy Wise), and John Christiansen; two sisters: Phyllis Luft of Vail, IA, and Betty Neppl (Leon) of Glenwood, IA; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Helen was lovingly adopted by the Mike and Nancy Schultes family.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents Nick and Hilda Loew; her two husbands: Edwin Tigges and Donald Hannasch; four sisters: Irma Zeimen, Esther Pieper, Rita Powers, Ruth Ann Powers, and a brother Bob Loew.
