Ronald Juergens of Scranton

Ronald Dean Juergens, age 91, of Scranton, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, IA.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 1- 3 P.M. followed by a private family graveside service at the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family of Ron Juergens and left with the funeral home.
Ron was born on July 18, 1931, in Glidden, Iowa, and he was the son of Kenneth and Gladys Ewart Juergens.  He grew up in Glidden and Scranton and graduated from Scranton Consolidated High School in 1949.  Ron served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1951-1961. He was married to Ann Tucker on April 25, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. The couple lived in Jefferson for four years before moving to Scranton.  In his younger years, he played semi-pro football and fast pitch softball.  Ron owned and operated an implement business with his brother Jim for many years and he drove a garbage truck after he retired.  He was a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church, and he was on the Scranton Telephone Company board for many years.  He enjoyed umpiring high school softball and baseball games, running the clock at games, helping with Meals on Wheels, shoveling driveways and sidewalks for anyone in need, and riding his bicycle all over Scranton well into his eighties.
Ron is survived by his two sons: Kent Juergens and his wife Jeri of Urbandale and Jay Juergens of West Des Moines and his friend Nancy Petersen of Johnston; two grandchildren: Andrea Juergens of Ankeny and Alexander Juergens of Urbandale; two great-grandchildren Izabella and Kinzlee Clark; a sister-in-law Betty Juergens of Carroll; a sister-in-law Sharon Fauver of Bradenton, FL; a brother-in-law Douglas Tucker and his wife Jean of Jefferson, along with his special exchange student Marianne Oertli and her husband Daniel of Basel, Switzerland, and Michael Endres and his wife Jenn of Papillion, NE.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ann Juergens, a grandson Samuel Swift-Juergens, two brothers Jim Juergens and Jerry Juergens and his wife Shirley.
