Iowa’s 2022 corn and soybean harvest is underway a few days behind the average according to the latest Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). For the week ending Sept. 25, producers had 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork with most farmers harvesting row crops, chopping sileage, or cutting hay. The corn harvest was five percent complete, five days behind last year and just one day behind the average. Corn conditions ratings were unchanged from 64 percent good to excellent as crop maturity reached 63 percent, two days behind last year but a day ahead of average. Soybean harvest reached seven percent complete, four days behind 2021 and three days behind the five-year average. Soybean conditions dipped to 62 percent good to excellent with 61 percent of plants dropping leaves, three days behind last year and a day behind average.
