MidAmerican Energy crews from Iowa are heading south to assist with the response to damage expected after Hurricane Ian makes landfall in Florida. MidAmerican is sending 80 employees, including line crews, supervisory and support teams, utility trucks, and other equipment, following a request from a regional power company, Georgia Power. These employees all volunteered for the assignment. John Guy, MidAmerican vice president of electric delivery, says, “We don’t know exactly where our crews will end up, depending on the damage, but we do know that MidAmerican Energy employees are up to the task of restoring customers whose lives are disrupted by Hurricane Ian. We know from experience how important it is for a utility to get help quickly when disaster strikes. We’re pleased that we can provide that help to another utility and its customers when they need it most.” The teams are expected to arrive in Atlanta on Friday morning for staging. They will be dispatched on power restoration assignments based on damage assessments. Hurricane Ian recorded wind speeds of up to 155 mph Wednesday morning as it collided with Florida’s Gulf coast.
