Richard Rose of Westside

Richard Louis Rose, age 81, of Westside, IA, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Panora Specialty Care in Panora, IA, surrounded by his family.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating.  Organist for the service will be Rebecca Dose.  Casket bearers will be his nephews: Steve Moore, Fred Gartner, Mark Sedlacek, Jason Bretey, Jared Bretey, Greg Jahde, and Brian Behrns.  Honorary casket bearers will be his deer hunting friends. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery.

    Visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia from 9:30 A.M. – 10:45 A.M. on Monday prior to the service.

     Richard was born on October 25, 1940 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Daniel and Geraldine (Jahde) Rose.  He grew up on a farm north of Halbur and graduated from Ar-We-Va High School in 1959.  He began driving truck for his father in high school and continued Rose Trucking until he retired.  He was married to Janet Andersen on May 28, 1961 at the First Presbyterian Church in Westside.  The couple made their home in Westside where they raised their three daughters: Barbara, Pam, and Lori.  Rich and Janet owned and operated the Diner in Westside for many years where he was head chef and was famous for his soup.  Rich was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia and a longtime member of the Westside Volunteer Fire Department.  In retirement, Rich worked for FAC in Arcadia.  He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing cards, buying treasures at auctions, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

     Rich is survived by wife Janet of 61 years of Carroll; his three daughters and their families: Barbara Kraft (Dale) of Hutchinson, KS, Pam Wilfing (Frank) of Clive, and Lori Eischeid (Rahn) of Carroll; three grandchildren: Rose Sawlaw (Solomon) of Des Moines, Grace Eischeid of Grimes, and Jack Wilfing of Fargo, ND; his in-laws: Gale “Gus” Moore of Ashland, NE, Julie Kock (Ron) of Carroll, Linda McCoid (Russ) of Denison, and Lon Andersen (Mary) of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.

     Rich was preceded in death by his parents Danny and Geri Rose; his father and mother-in-law Lenus and Helen Andersen; two sisters: Patricia Moore and Marcia Bretey (John), and a grandson Tyler Quandt
