Marie Ann (Schultes) Halbur was born February 13, 1952, in Carroll Iowa to Albin and Rosalia (Danner) Schultes. The first daughter and middle child of seven, Marie loved spending time with her older brothers and younger sisters on the family farm where they were raised. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School graduating 8th grade in 1966 and graduated high school on her own through correspondence with American School of Chicago.
Marie met her dear William Halbur and were married April 27, 1974, in Dedham Iowa. William and Marie began their family in Denison Iowa and then on to their acreage in Manning Iowa. Blessed with three wonderful sons along the way. In 1986 the family moved to Tucson Arizonia where William and Marie lived for the past 36 years.
Marie raised her three boys and was a successful self-employed business owner focused on home and elder care, which turned out to be two of her passions. Marie took great pride in her family and home also enjoyed cooking, bargain hunting, gardening and tending to her plants, family dinners and quiet breakfasts on the patio. She always made guests feel welcome with home cooked meals and delicious baked goods. Marie made extra effort to ensure that the Holidays were especially enjoyable.
On May 5, 2022, Marie was called home to be in the loving arms of the Lord after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She spent her final days surrounded by family and found comfort in having her sons tending to her, holding the hands of her grandchildren, listening to music and praying with her sister as well as hearing her siblings talk to her on the phone. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully while holding her husband Bill’s hand.
Marie is survived by her husband William of 48 years, sons Scott (Nicole) Halbur, Matthew (Shawna) Halbur and Michael (Joanna) Halbur. Grandchildren Christina, Jakob, Matthew and Ryan. Siblings Joe (Carol) Schultes, Louis (Shirley) Schultes, Leo (Mari) Schultes, Marian (Ron) Berger, Marcia (Bob) Anderson, Marlene Weeks (Joe Spevak) as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents Albin Schultes and Rosalia (Danner) Schultes. Marie will be laid to rest in Tucson Arizona.
A Celebration of Marie’s life will be held in Carroll, Iowa at the Sharp Center (226 W. 8th St) on Monday, October 10, 2022, from 1-6 p.m.
Marie provided us all with wonderful memories that we will cherish always.
