Earlier this week, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved nearly $3 million in funding for eight State Recreational Trails Program projects, including the Great Western Connector Trail in Manning. The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has made funding available to cities, counties, municipal governments, and nonprofit organizations since 1988 to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities throughout the state. Manning’s allocation totals $200,242 and will be used to construct $2,150 feet of concrete between the city’s existing trail system and Carroll County’s Great Western Park.
