Merle Wernimont of Carroll

Merle William Wernimont, age 80, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha surrounded by his family.  
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Kevin Richter as Celebrant.  Music for the Mass will be by Kathy Halbur and Michelle Phillips.  Lector for the Mass will Bev Kruger.  Gift bearers will be his sisters: Lori Walter, Nancy Pudenz, Cheryl Adams, and Pat Wernimont.  Eucharistic Minister will be Bonnee Coon.   Casket bearers will be Tony Wernimont, Dean Wernimont, Sam Wernimont, Mark Wernimont, Rick Snyder, Todd Snyder, and Merlin Hinners.  Honorary casket bearers will be his card playing friends and his co-workers from Keebler.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. 
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday evening where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7 P.M.  The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church on Thursday at 9:30 A.M. where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M prior to the Mass.   
Merle was born on December 24, 1941 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Albert and Rosalia (Baumhover) Wernimont.  He grew up in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1959.  He began work for Rettenmaier Repair in Breda following high school.  He then worked for Al’s Corner and Deluxe Cleaners.  Merle was married to Linda Roth on August 17, 1963 St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda by Fr. Stieb.  The couple made their home in Breda for 4 years before moving to Carroll.  Merle worked for as a salesman for Keebler for over 40 years.  Merle enjoyed golf and going on an annual golf trips, playing cards with his buddies, and most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. 
Merle is survived his wife Linda Wernimont of 59 years of Carroll; his daughter Tracy Duncan (Bob) of Omaha; three grandchildren: Kacey Wernimont-Smith (Eric), Hayley Duncan, and Chase Duncan; his siblings: sister Bev Kruger (Melvin) of Churdan, brother Dale Wernimont of Breda, brother Alan Wernimont (Sheryl) of Carroll, sister Cheryl Adams (John) of Geneseo, IL, sister Pat Wernimont (Sue Bailey) of Apache Junction, AZ, sister Nancy Pudenz (Jeff) of Churdan, and sister Lori Walter (Craig) of Papillion, NE; sisters-in-law: Mary Kay Wernimont of Carroll, Cheryl Wernimont of Carroll, Jo Ann Wernimont of Carroll, and Bonnee Coon (Jim) of Early; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 
Merle was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Rosalia Wernimont: his father and mother-in-law Paul Roth and Genevieve McArthur; four brothers: Marvin, Ron, Gerald, and Roger; two sisters: Jean Fisher (Ralph) and Phyllis Hinners (Larry); a sister-in-law Dianne Becovitz; and his son Chris Wernimont in 2003.
