The annual Carroll County Pheasants Forever youth hunt is coming up this weekend, and there is still time to get signed up for a morning of fun for budding outdoorsmen and women. Chapter President Tracy Buck says the youth hunt has been around for nearly 30 years, and members are excited for another outstanding event.
The Saturday, Oct. 22 hunt begins at 8 a.m. at the AVAD Hunt Club on Highway 141 east of Dedham. Buck says the free program includes snacks, safety education, and guided hunts throughout the morning.
Participants do need to provide their own shotgun and shells, have completed their hunter education course, and be accompanied by a licensed adult. Volunteers with Pheasants Forever will be available to serve as mentors if a parent or guardian is not licensed. Buck says they have a surprisingly high success rate, even among first-time hunters.
Again, there is no cost to participate in Saturday’s Carroll County Pheasants Forever youth hunt, but pre-registration is required. Parents are asked to submit the applications and waivers included below to the AVAD Hunt Club by Wednesday, Oct. 19.
