Darrell Heuton of Carroll

Darrell Lee Heuton, age 82, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at his home in Carroll.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 21, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating.  Music for the service will be by Jan Pottroff and Polly Eason.  Casket bearers will be Ben Fink, Shawn Ausborn, Brett Foster, Corey Howlett, Nicholas Howlett, and Mac Carson.  Honorary casket bearers will be Darrell’s golf buddies.  Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Lidderdale.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday.  The casket will be moved to St. John Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

Darrell was born on January 23, 1940 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Gilbert and Helen (Jacobs) Heuton.  He grew up on his family’s farm near Lidderdale and attended Immanuel Lutheran School until the eighth grade and graduated from Carroll High School in 1959.  He was married to Dorothy Schumacher and to this union four children were born: Daniel, Deborah, Darlene, and Doris.  He owned and operated the Skelly Service Station and bulk tank wagon service in Lanesboro.  Darrell moved to Gillette, WY,  in 1975 and was married to Mary J. Jorgensen and gained three more children: Richard, Jeffry, and Julie.  He was employed by Arco Oil and Gas in Gillette and was transferred to Colorado City, CO, in 1982.  While living in Colorado, Darrell was very proud to have worked with the Bureau of Land Management while working with Arco.  Darrell retired and moved to Carroll in 2016.  He enjoyed his family and friends and loved to play golf.  Darrell and Mary spent many years in Kingsland, TX, on LBJ Lake fishing and golfing with many good Texas friends.

Darrell is survived by his wife Mary Heuton of Carroll; his children and their families: Daniel Heuton (Mickey) of Lanesboro, Deborah Ausborn (Alan) of Lake City, Doris Fink (Scott) of Truro; Richard Jorgensen of Ames, Jeffry Jorgensen (Cindy) of Ames, and Julie Howlett (Norman) of Beulah, CO; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Nyla Heuton of Carroll and Connie Zwick of Ft. Meyers, FL; and many nieces, and nephews.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Helen Heuton; his brother Dean Heuton; his sister Delane Cleveland; sister-in-law Rosemary Heuton; and his daughter Darlene Holm in 2005.
