The Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved the $3.984 million base bid for work at the Carroll County courthouse but is yet to decide on an additional half-million dollars in alternate proposals. The board made their decision during Monday’s meeting. The base bid from Badding Construction includes substantial HVAC improvements and interior renovations. District 3 Supervisor Gene Meiners says he and the board were pleased with how low Badding’s base bid was.
Alternate 1 would re-roof the entire courthouse at the cost of $391,500. This was well over SEH Design’s initial estimate for this segment of the project. John Deacy, an SEH architect, recommends moving forward with this section despite the higher-than-anticipated bid due to the current roof’s condition.
Alternate 2 for $49,500 would have a partition installed in the supervisors’ meeting room to create additional office space if needed, but Board Chair Stephanie Hausman and District 5 Supervisor Rich Ruggles say it seems like an unnecessary expenditure. District 2 Supervisor Dean Schettler suggested those funds would be better spent in the former jail space.
Alternate 3 for $82,500 concerns the removal of old infrastructure from the former Carroll County jail space, and Alternate 4 was at $5,000 for network cable replacements. The supervisors voted unanimously to approve Badding’s base bid for $3.984 million. They will continue discussions on which alternates they’d like to include at future meetings. Bid pricing is guaranteed for 30 days from the date of bid opening.
