The Carroll County Ambulance Service has been selected for three awards to be presented at the 2022 Iowa Emergency Medical Service Association (IEMSA) annual convention later this month. Wendy Baker, who recently retired from Carroll County EMS after more than two decades of service, was selected for induction into the Iowa EMS Hall of Fame. She says finding out she was receiving such a high honor was a great way to finish out her career.
Carroll County Paramedic Scott Stork of Breda was selected for the Career EMS Provider of the Year award from IEMSA. Stork joined the Carroll County Ambulance team in January 2020, but his history as a first-responder extends well before then. He has served on the Breda Fire Department since 2015 and previously volunteered as an emergency medical technician for Breda EMS. Stork says EMS is an ever-evolving field, but staying motivated to improve is easier when he thinks about what is at stake.
The final award went to the Carroll County Ambulance Department as an entire agency for the Career EMS Service of the Year award. Unlike fire and law enforcement, cities and counties are not required to provide emergency medical services to their residents. Many Iowans are not guaranteed a swift response from an ambulance if they dial 911, but not in Carroll County. Director Jamie Wuebker says Carroll County is fortunate to have one of the best agencies in the state.
These recipients were nominated by Kenneth Hansen, Carroll County’s training officer. The awards will be presented during the upcoming IEMSA conference in Des Moines on Saturday, Nov. 12.
