Charles “Chuck” Best of Glidden

Charles “Chuck” Best, age 94, of Glidden, IA, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating.  Organist for the service will be Becky Miller and soloist will be Carl Wilburn.  Casket bearers will be Larry Bushman, Dave McNamara, Dick Platt, Greg Platt, Butch Weber, and Tom Weber.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday evening.  The casket will be moved to Peace Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Anthony Hospice and may be left with the funeral home or at the church.
Charles was born on June 28, 1928 in Carroll.  He was the son of Bernard and Caroline Best.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden.  He married Althea Gordhammer on November 23, 1947 and they were married up until her death in 2005.
Chuck and Althea lived on the farm South of Glidden where Chuck farmed.  He enjoyed the farm life.  He ran a custom baler for many years in the 60 through the 80s.  He loved raising and showing pigs and won many awards for his market hogs in Iowa and at the Kansas City Royal.   He was a member of the building committee when the new Peace Lutheran church was built in 1970.  That was one of his proudest moments. In 1998 Chuck and Althea retired and moved to Glidden.  They loved to entertain their neighbors and friends.
Surviving are four children, Carole Rose (Bob) of Grandview Mo., Stanley Best (Mary) of Glidden, Mike Best (Deb) of Onalaska, WI., and Brian Best (Sharon) of Glidden; also several grandchildren and step grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Althea, and sister Betty.
