Virgil Dickman of Coon Rapids

 Virgil Albert Dickman, age 82, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

      Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids with John Kult officiating.  Music for the service will be by Marcia Young.  Casket bearers will be Zebulon Smith, Austin Smith, Amanda Smith, Doug Hanks, Jeremy Hofbauer, and Kevin Mahan.  Honorary casket bearers will be Virgil’s grandchildren and LaVerne Royer.  Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.

     Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday evening.  The casket will be moved to Ascension Lutheran Church at 2 P.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 2:45 P.M. prior to the service.

     Virgil was born on October 2, 1940 in Webb, IA, and he was the son of Waldo and Katherina (Meyers) Dickman.  He grew up in Quimby and Washta, Iowa, and he was married to Melva Harrison on August 14, 1959 at the Lutheran Church in Washta.  The couple lived in several locations before moving to Coon Rapids in 1975 where they raised their family.  Virgil worked for Garst Farms as a cattle feeder for many years. In retirement, he mowed many lawns in Coon Rapids. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, traveling, going to garage sales, and he was very proud of his garden.

     Virgil is survived his wife Melva of Coon Rapids; his five children and their families: daughter Peggy Bagwell of Lamar, CO, son Kendall Dickman (Lisa) of Coon Rapids, son Stanley Dickman of Stockton, GA, son Gary Dickman (Tammy) of Indianola, and daughter Sharlene Gingery of Carroll; fifteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Lorraine Adams of Le Mars and Cheryl Harrison of Correctionville; and several nieces, nephews, and many good friends.

     Virgil was preceded in death by parents Waldo and Katherina Dickman; his father and mother-in-law Ona and Roy Harrison; two brothers: LeRoy Dickman (Mary) and Lloyd Dickman (Betty); two grandsons: Justin and Jonathan Dickman; and a great-granddaughter Bailey Werle.
