Carroll County District 5 Supervisor Rich Ruggles announced today (Monday) he is resigning from the position he has held since 2016. Ruggles says he has known for some time that he would be stepping away from county governance and made it official during the board’s meeting Monday morning.
When looking back at his time on the board, Ruggles says there is one topic that stands leaps and bounds over any other challenge the supervisors faced during his tenure: the construction of the new Carroll County jail.
Ruggles’ resignation is effective on Tuesday, Dec. 6. He says that date was chosen so he can finish a comprehensive countywide employee health insurance and handbook review.
Ruggles says there are two options for filling his seat, but it is still being determined what route county officials will take.
Again, Ruggles’s last day as District 5 Supervisor will be Dec. 6. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more information as county officials determine how they will fill the vacancy on the board.
