Richard Baumhover, 91 of Carroll, died early Monday morning, November 21, 2022 at Addington Place in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Friday at St. Lawrence Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott, assisted Deacon Dave Prenger. Music will be by Kathy Halbur and Kathleen Macke. Lector will be Ron Eich. Gift Bearers will be Richard’s grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Rick Baumhover, Brian Baumhover, Mark Baumhover, Neil Baumhover, Randy Drees, and Greg Simons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will begin at noon on Friday at the church and continue until 1:15 p.m.

Born on January 21, 1931, he was the son of A.H. and Josephine (Kanne) Baumhover. He grew up on the family farm north of Carroll, the only place he called home. He attended St. Lawrence Grade School and graduated from Carroll High School in 1948. Richard was united in marriage to Mary C. Nieland at St. John’s Church in Arcadia on April 4, 1964, and together they had four children.
Before graduating high school, Richard had taken took over the family farm and farmed until retiring in 1994. He enjoyed working outside and especially feeding cattle. Richard was a life time member of St. Lawrence Church and the Knights of Columbus, a member of the former Elks Lodge, and a Maple River Township Trustee for over 20 years. He enjoyed agriculture, was involved with Democratic politics and cheered on Cyclone sports.
Richard loved listening to classical music and opera throughout his whole life. He grew up listening to it on WOI radio as a child in the mornings before school, playing it while he farmed, and attending annual symphony concerts at C.Y. Stevens Auditorium in Ames.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Mary; his four children Rick (Laurie) of Urbandale, Brian of Madrid, Mark (Melanie) of St. Paul MN, and Neil (Lisa) of Woodward; 7 grandchildren Meridith and Nathaniel Baumhover, Austin and Maximillian Baumhover, and Allison, Joseph and James Baumhover; his twin sister Rita Prenger; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Andrew and Caroline (Staiert) Nieland, the following siblings and their spouses: Denis Baumhover, Leola (Elmer) Simons, Alfred (Florence) Baumhover, Margert (Milo) Hyland, Ruth Ormandroyd, and Louis Prenger.
