Jeffrey Behrens of Carroll

Jeffrey James Behrens, age 64, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Regency Park in Carroll surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 5, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Kevin Richter as Celebrant.  Lector will be Randi Cretsinger.  Eucharistic ministers will be Joni and Greg Tigges. Gift bearers will be Jeff’s grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Dennis Behrens, Andy Behrens, Hank Behrens, Mark Behrens, John Rossiter, Jim Dopheide, Ryan Thelin, and Doug Filmer.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7 P.M. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

Jeff was born on September 14, 1958 in Carroll, IA and he was the son of Virgil and Louise (Beyerink) Behrens.  He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1977.  Jeff began working for Roberts and Dybdahl Lumber Yard in high school and then Tiefenthaler Ag Lime.  In 1980, he started Behrens Trucking and operated it along with feeding cattle for many years.  He began operations with his son Smoke in 2008 as J&T Express.  Jeff shared his success in the business by mentoring several men along the way.  Jeff was married to Cheri Pudenz in 1979 and to this union three children were born: Jeremy, Katie, and Tyler “Smoke”.  Jeff was remarried to Paula Duncan in 2012.  He enjoyed spending time at his home on Blackhawk Lake and he was always up for a good time.  His favorite pastime was driving around looking at his cattle in the different feed yards.  Jeff loved to travel and visited Australia, Ireland, Alaska, the Dominican Republic, and many other destinations. 
Jeff is survived by his wife Paula; son Jeremy Behrens; daughter Katie Toms (Mark), and son Tyler “Smoke” Behrens (Aly Goos); his step-children: Randi Cretsinger (Jon) and Austin Hertz; 11 grandchildren; his step-mother Virgene Behrens; his siblings: Dennis Behrens, Steve “Henry” Behrens, Sharon Behrens, and Mark Behrens (Laurie); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Louise Behrens; a sister-in-law Linda Wempe; his in-laws Jim and Mary Pudenz; and his sister Lori “Red” Rossiter.
