According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa, Iowa motor fuel prices remained on their downward trajectory over the past week. As of Wednesday, Dec. 7, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.07 across the state, a 15-cent drop from last week and equal to 2021’s prices. The national average was down 14 cents to $3.36 per gallon. Retail diesel in Iowa also dropped 15 cents to a statewide average of $4.70 per gallon, compared to $3.36 per gallon a year ago. The current national average for diesel stood at $5.03. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16. As for home heating fuels, propane prices rose one cent to $1.94 per gallon, home heating oil climbed five cents to $4.11 per gallon, and natural gas prices fell $1.49 at the Henry Hub reporting site to $5.49 per MMBtu.
