Carroll Businesses Partner To Offer Free Cab Rides During The Holidays

Local businesses are partnering to provide free cab rides around the holidays to reduce drunk driving instances in Carroll County. The Decide to Ride initiative is a joint effort between Tiller’s Cab, Auen Distributing, Journey Senior Services, Carroll Broadcasting, and Doug Gifford of State Farm Insurance. Auen Distributing President Jim Auen explains the origin of the program.

Decide to Ride is available Friday, Dec. 23, Friday, Dec. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the local area. Simply reach out to Tiller’s Cab by calling 712-847-2102 and get a ride scheduled.

As of Thursday morning, the Iowa State Patrol has recorded 333 deaths on Iowa roadways so far this calendar year. That figure is about 2.35 percent below last year’s number with only a week to go, but it is nine deaths above Iowa’s five-year average. Every impaired driver off the road is one less opportunity for a tragic outcome.

Auen adds they are hoping to see other community members and businesses join the local Decide to Ride initiative in the future so the program can be offered during other major holidays. Again, Decide to Ride is offered on Dec. 23, Dec. 30, and Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. by calling Tiller’s Cab at 712-847-2102.
