East Sac County and Ar-We-Va Community School Districts have hired a new superintendent following the announcement earlier this school year of Jeff Kruse’s retirement. Nathan Hemiller was announced as the new superintendent last week. Hemiller has served as an Iowa educator for the previous 16 years and started his career at North Iowa Community schools in Buffalo Center, IA, where he taught seventh through 12th-grade life science, anatomy, chemistry, and environmental science. Hemiller says he went into education to impact kids’ lives.
Hemiller attended Minnesota State Mankato for all of his degrees in 2002. Hemiller has also served as an Athletic Director for North Iowa Community Schools and is currently the Principal at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. Hemiller adds he knew at some point he would make the transition from principal to superintendent but didn’t know when it would happen.
Hemiller officially starts his new role as superintendent on July 1st. He says initially, he wants to get to know the area and school districts and start with evaluating the needs of each district.
Hemiller and his wife, Jenna, have three kids, Harper, Cora, and Brooks. During their free time, they enjoy being active in the community, going outside, and spending time with family and friends.
