The Lake City Council is in the testing process of implementing a mass text system for public safety notifications. City Administrator Jacob Matthews says this is free for the city and residents to use. The program will alert people of public safety issues such as boil advisories and snow ordinances. According to Mathews, a text will notify the user when, where, and how long the safety issue is in effect. The program is only used for public safety and can not be used for any notifications on community events. Additionally, only residents in the city limits of Lake City are eligible for the messages. Matthews adds they will also continue to use social media for public safety notifications. Individuals interested in signing up can contact city hall at 712-640-6401.
