Velma Schweers, 96 of Carroll, formerly of Arcadia, died early Saturday morning, February 11, 2023 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at St. Lawrence Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter.  Concelebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott.  Music will be by Kathy Halbur.  Lector for the Funeral Mass will be Rita Hughes.  Gift Bearers will be Alison, Katie, and Robert Schweers.  Casket Bearers will be Robert Schweers, Katie Schweers, Jim Allen, Ralph Lampman, Tom Schweers, and Dale Schweers.  Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Arcadia.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a rosary at 7 p.m.  Additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation.

Born on July 18, 1926, in Leon, Iowa, Velma was the daughter of George and Julie (Tacke) Sieve.  She spent her younger years in Leon and graduated from Leon High School.  Velma moved to the Carroll Community and was united in marriage to Robert Schweers on February 28, 1949 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll.  The couple made their north of Arcadia where Bob was engaged in grain and livestock farming.  In addition to helping her husband with the farm operation, Velma was a secretary at St. John School in Arcadia.

Velma enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, dancing, sewing, crocheting, and supporting her grandchildren in their various activities.  Over the years she volunteered in many capacities with St. Anthony Auxiliary, New Hope Bargain Shoppe, St. John Guild, and St. Lawrence Guild.

In the fall of 1998, Bob and Velma moved to the Carroll Community where she was currently residing.  Velma was a member of St. John Paul II Parish, and a longtime member of St. John Parish in Arcadia.

Velma is survived by her son, Curt Schweers and his wife Lynette of Arcadia; her grandchildren: Alison Schweers, Katie Schweers, and Robert Schweers; her brother, Alan Sieve of Tennessee; her sister, Linda (Bill) Allen of Nebraska; her sister-in-law, Adrienne Schweers of Missouri; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Schweers in 2018; and her brother Milo Sieve.
