Audubon County Economic Development (ACED) is in the bidding process for a proposed housing development in town. At Monday’s city council meeting, city officials held a public hearing for a zoning change for the Gleason Subdivision. City Administrator Joseph Foran says there are four lots ACED is looking to build on.
Sara Slater, ACED Business & Tourism Coordinator, says they hope for a groundbreaking in the spring of this year. She says this is not the first housing project ACED has done.
Slater says now that the zoning has been changed, they are working on the final estimated cost of the project. According to Slater, housing is still an issue in Audubon County.
Slater adds they are unsure how long construction will last; it depends on when they can get started and the availability of materials. Funding for this project comes from ACED’s Audubon Housing Fund and donations from local businesses.
