The Audubon Recreation Center expansion project is proceeding right on schedule, according to city staff. The project kicked off in September of 2022 with an estimated total cost of approximately $2 million. According to Rec Center Manager Dan Bierbrodt, the initial plans were to have a full-size gymnasium attached when the building was built in 2018. In 2018 enough money was raised to build the facility with its current amenities, and organizers decided to wait on the gym. Bierbrodt says with community support, they are able to add the gym and much more.

Bierbrodt says the new addition will be on the east side of the building with an expected completion date in the fall of 2023 or early spring of 2024. He says funds for the project are being raised through grants and donations.

Bierbrodt believes that when the addition is done, it will draw people to Audubon. He says they plan to host tournaments with the new gym in the future.
