Dorothy M. Schon of Carroll, formerly of Glidden

Dorothy M. Schon, age 98, of Carroll and formerly of Glidden passed away at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 27, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Randy Schon as Celebrant.  Music for the Mass will be by the St. Elizabeth Seton Choir with Mary Ross as organist and Mike Bolton as soloist.  Lectors for the Mass will be Carla Knutsen and Jen Schon.  Eucharistic Minister will be Jim Eich.  Gift Bearers will be granddaughters: Brittany Becker, Hallie Golay, Talia Schon, Jen Schon, and Carla Knutsen.  Mass Servers will be Avery Knutsen and Austen Eich.  Casket bearers will be Chad Eich, Nick Schon, Matt Schon, Steve Schon, Traer Schon, and Caleb Knutsen.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden after 5 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M.  Additional visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 A.M. – 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made the Glidden Fire Department, Glidden First Responders, or Glidden United Charities.

Dorothy was born on July 15, 1924 in Dedham, IA.  She was the daughter of Anton and Anna (Golwitzer) Klocke.  She grew up in Dedham where she attended St. Joseph School.  Dorothy was married to William Schon on January 9, 1945 at St. Joseph’s in Dedham.  The couple farmed south of Glidden from 1945 – 1989.  Dorothy was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish and was active with the church guild.  Dorothy was dedicated to her family and church.  She enjoyed attending family events, her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and she was famous for her chocolate chip cookies.

Dorothy is survived by her children and families: daughter Darlene Eich (Jim) of Carroll, son Don Schon (Paula) of Glidden, son Jim Schon (Chris) of Glidden, and son Kevin Schon (Renee) of Glidden; ten grandchildren: Chad Eich (April), Carla Knutsen (Mike), Nick Schon, Matt Schon (Elyse), Jen Schon, Steve Schon (Bridget), Brittany Becker (David), Hallie Golay (Andy), Traer Schon, and Talia Schon; fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way.  Dorothy is also survived by a sister Annabelle Fox of Carroll; a brother Ron Klocke (Linda) of Minnesota; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Schon of Glidden and Harriet Schon of Carroll; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Schon in 2016; her parents Anton and Anna Klocke; her father and mother-in-law William Sr. and Anna Schon; two sisters: Loretta Greving (Tony) and LaVina Keiser (Jack); four brothers: Alfred Klocke (Theresa), Bert Klocke (Louise), Lenny Klocke (Leona), and Benny Klocke (Delores); and a son Ronald in infancy.
