Lake City officials updated their 2013 urban renewal plan following a public hearing at Monday’s meeting. According to City Administrator Jacob Matthews, the changes concerned the property where Dobson Pipe Organ Builders is rebuilding their facility near downtown. In June of 2021, Dobson caught on fire and was utterly destroyed in the blaze. The company announced it would rebuild on the original property a little over a year ago. Matthews says the change carves out the property Dobson’s is rebuilding on and will split the tax increment financing (TIF) funds between the city and the company. Matthews adds TIF funds are also used to help with development elsewhere in the community. Carroll-based Badding Construction is serving as the general contractor, and Dobson’s plans for a completion date later this year.
