St. Anthony nurse, Jane Hackfort, RN, OCN, is the hospital’s latest DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recipient. The DAISY Foundation was founded in 1999 following the death of J. Patrick Barnes. He passed away due to complications from an uncommon auto-immune disorder. His family wanted to honor his memory and the profound difference his nursing team made in their lives while Barnes was a patient. Hackfort started her career at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in 1981 after graduating from Methodist in Omaha. Over the years, she has worked in the medical-surgical unit, same-day surgery, and intensive care. She currently works at the cancer center in infusion and chemotherapy. A section from Hackfort’s nomination letter reads, “Jane is an exemplary nurse that makes a tremendous impact on the patients she cares for. She makes patients in the cancer center feel special as she celebrates their successes, makes them laugh on hard days, and supports patients and family members when they are struggling.” Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer Anita Becker says, “Jane has cared for patients at St. Anthony for over forty years, many of these being our family members, friends, and neighbors. She is much deserving of this award. St. Anthony is proud to continually recognize our nursing staff for their dedicated, compassionate care through the DAISY Foundation.”
