A Carroll man taken into custody Tuesday on motor vehicle burglary faces additional charges for allegedly assaulting an officer while resisting arrest. According to Carroll County District Court records, 30-year-old Asher Dodd Herrin was jailed for third-degree burglary—motor vehicle, an aggravated misdemeanor, assault on a person in certain occupations, a serious misdemeanor, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident on the evening of March 6 in the 100 block of N. West Street. A caller reported that Dodd had entered a vehicle in the area and removed the vehicle key and a backpack containing various items, including a credit card and approximately $200 in cash. Law enforcement located Herrin in the area soon after the report and recovered the stolen items. Law enforcement attempted to arrest Herrin in the 500 block of W. 3rd Street on Tuesday evening. Authorities say Herrin refused to comply with officers’ commands and punched one of the officers in the head while resisting arrest, leading to the additional charges. As of this (Wednesday) morning, he remains in custody at the Carroll County jail.
