Voters in the IKM-Manning School District passed a tax revenue bond during last night’s (Tuesday) special election. The $7.9 million bond passed with strong support from Carroll County, with 94.5 percent of votes in the county voting in favor. However, support diminished in the remaining three counties, Crawford, Shelby, and Audubon, with the majority there voting against the bond. Superintendent Trevor Miller says he was really amazed by the support of the project, with over 70 percent in favor. According to Miller, the bond will help pay for much-needed facility improvements.
Miller adds new locker rooms will be added along with expansions to the STEM classrooms. He says these renovations will impact students for years to come.
It is unclear at this time when the project will be out for bid and when construction will start. Miller notes school officials should know when everything will be in place early next week. Miller says the expansion project is essential to the district because education has changed.
A total of 1,609 votes were cast, with 1,146 voting yes and 463 voting no. The election results are unofficial until canvassed by the respective county board of supervisors and then approved by the Shelby County Board of Supervisors, which serves as the control county for the IKM-Manning District.
