The Carroll Chamber of Commerce has announced Rod Roberts as one of the recipients of the 2022 Public Service award at their annual banquet. Doug Burns presented Roberts with the recognition and said, considering Roberts’ influence over the years, he could be receiving this award in any other city in Iowa.

Roberts served on the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education and represented the Carroll area in the state legislature. Also on Roberts’s long list of accomplishments is a run for Governor in 2010. Burns says Roberts earned former Governor Terry Branstad’s respect during his run.

In his role with the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals and as Labor Commissioner, Roberts oversaw everything from nursing home evaluations to ensuring elevators work in buildings around the state. Roberts says a community like Carroll made it possible to serve.

Roberts notes he was fortunate to grow up in a home where his parents modeled community service. When Roberts ran for Governor, the only county he won was Carroll, and he says that is what makes it such a special place to call home.
