Harriet Hallinan, age 97, of Kansas City, KS, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully at her home in Kansas City surrounded by her family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Patrick Behm as Celebrant. Music will be by the Holy Spirit Choir. Lectors for the Mass will be Stacey Jenkins and Brooks Jenkins. Gift bearers will be Jessica Hallinan and Kelly Hallinan . Casket bearers will be Josh Hodapp, Chris Hallinan, Cory Parker, Matt Parsons, Joe Parsons, and Jason Hallinan. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
A public Rosary led by the Catholic Daughters will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with visitation following from 5:30 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 1 P.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 1:45 P.M. prior to the Mass.

Harriet was born on May 29, 1925 in Kimballton, IA, and she was the daughter of Einer and Carrie (Jensen) Christensen. She grew up in Kimballton, IA, where she graduated from Exira High School in 1942. Harriet was married to Donald Hallinan on July 18, 1947 in Des Moines, IA. The couple made their home in Carroll, IA, where they owned and operated Don’s Bakery. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Holy Spirit Church Choir, Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters, Eternal Word Television Network, Ladies guild, and card clubs. She enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble, and Jenga. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren. Harriet always enjoyed baking cookies for the hospital auxiliary.
Harriet is survived by her son Merle Hallinan (Barb) of Lake View, IA daughter Donna Parker of Omaha NE, daughter Mary Hodapp of Omaha, NE, son Jim (Laura) Hallinan of Lansing, KS, son Denny Hallinan of Kansas City, KS, son Thomas Hallinan of Kansas City KS; son in-law Rick Schilling (Lynne) of Des Moines IA, seventeen grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Donald Hallinan; parents Einer and Carrie Christensen; daughter Karen Schilling, son-in-law Ron Parker; and sister Ramona (Jack) Post.
