The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office will soon have body armor for the K9 department. Vested Interest in K9 Inc. was established in 2009 and is a 501(c)3 organization with a mission to provide bullet and stab protective vests to K9 units of law enforcement agencies throughout the United States. Sheriff Pat Riley says the vest will be donated to the department. It will be used when the K9 unit is called out for in a variety of different situations.

There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. Since the organization opened its doors, they have provided almost 5,000 vests in all 50 states valued at $6.9 million. Riley says the vest will help better protect the K9s in the field.
