Earlier this week, the Carroll RAGBRAI Executive Committee unveiled their theme for the host community during the July 24 overnight stop will be “You’ll Have A Barrel of Fun,” and the search is now on for volunteers to begin preparations in earnest. Lynda Dukes-Franey, one of Carroll’s chairs for the event, says it takes hundreds of people and thousands of manhours to prepare and host 20,000+ riders and support crews, and there are plenty of opportunities for residents to help.
Many hands will be needed to set up and tear down the displays to be featured throughout the community, not to mention oversight of food and beverage vendors, coordinating transportation, providing information to visitors, and much more. Check out the Carroll RAGBRAI Facebook page or follow the link included with this story on our website to register as a volunteer. Dukes-Franey says Carroll will leave a lasting impression with RAGBRAIers as more community members become involved.
While the logo and theme have been released, Dukes-Franey says the Carroll RAGBRAI Committee is still working to finalize some aspects of their plans.
Dukes-Franey encourages Carroll residents to stay engaged, as there will be lots of information coming out over the next several months as RAGBRAI draws nearer. The iconic bike ride is scheduled from July 22 in Sioux City to July 29 in Davenport, with overnight stops in Storm Lake, Carroll, Ames, Des Moines, Tama-Toledo, and Coralville.
