Doris White of Scranton

Doris Lora White, age 86, of rural Scranton, IA, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

     Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the Dillavou Cemetery in Kendrick Township, Greene County, IA, with Pastor Rick Hamilton officiating.  Casket bearers will be her grandsons.

     A visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday evening.

     Doris was born on August 11, 1936 Philadelphia, PA, and she was the daughter of John “Jack” Louis and Harriette Ella (Stewart) Cavallier.  Her father was in the Navy so she grew up on several military bases until age 7 when her family moved to Jefferson, IA, where she attended high school.  Doris was married to Leonard James White on June 15, 1956 at the Methodist Parsonage in Churdan.  Doris worked several jobs over the years before going to work for Walmart in Carroll where she was employed for 20 years.  She served as Kendrick Township Clerk for many years.  Doris was a social butterfly and didn’t know a stranger.  She enjoyed camping, traveling, going on cruises, and taking care of her acreage. She was a member of the Breda American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed giving talks to American Legion Auxiliary Groups about being at the Pearl Harbor bombing as a child. Doris was the caretaker of the Dillavou Cemetery and took pride in putting out the flags for Memorial Day for each individual military veteran.

     Doris is survived by her children and their families: daughter Sandy White of Jefferson, son Kevin White Carroll, and son Scott White (Lynn) of Lohrville; a daughter-in-law Pattie White of St. Augustine, FL; her grandchildren: Leonard James White III “L.J.”(fiancée Jenn Reno), Bryce White (Andrea Wolterman), Nathan L. White (Jessica), Richard John White Jr. “R.J.”, Tyler White (Lisa Hall), Jimmy White (Tori Poppert), Alexander, and Jerry Skjordal (Jessica); twenty one great-grandchildren; a sister Juanita “Riki” Masterson of Missouri; two sisters-in-law Joyce White of Ralston and Margaret Moore of Hastings, Ne; and several nieces and nephews.

   Doris was preceded in death by her parents John “Jack” and Hariette Cavallier; husband Leonard in 2002; two sons: Richard John in 2002 and Leonard James Jr. in 2014.
