Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has released the list of the most common consumer complaints in the state from 2022. Last year, the Consumer Protection Division received over 4,000 complaints, and 523 of them, or more than 10 percent, concerned misrepresentation in the sale of new or used cars, disputes over automobile warranty details, and faulty repair and service issues. Healthcare took the second spot with 447 complaints in 2022, primarily involving disagreements over health insurance payments, hospital and doctor visit billing, and health fraud. Bird says, “We’re protecting consumers and holding scammers accountable. We see cases all too often where scammers convince people to give up their personal information or large sums of money by taking advantage of people’s emotions. Our office will keep fighting to protect Iowans from these terrible crimes by working with fraud victims and raising awareness on how to recognize a scam or fraudulent business.” Complaints can be filed by calling the Iowa Consumer Protection Division at 515-281-5926 or at www.iowaattorneygeneral.gov. Other areas making the top 10 most common complaints in 2022 include home improvement, imposter scams, media complaints, and housing/realty.
