Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency Updated The Outdoor Warning System

The Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency has updated the outdoor warning siren system. The previous system needed a dispatcher to receive a message from the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a warning and then determining the area where the sirens needed to go off. The new setup will receive tornado warning polygons directly from NWS. The polygons are automatically plotted on the system map, and if it touches any of the four quadrants on the map, the system automatically sets off the sirens. The storm sirens are for outdoor warnings and serve as a notice to seek shelter, and they are not intended to be heard inside buildings. A map of all siren locations in Calhoun County can be found included with this story on our website.
