A reignited trash fire is believed to be responsible for an early morning blaze that destroyed approximately 15 acres of grassland near Carroll. According to Carroll Fire Chief Dan Hannasch, the firefighters were dispatched at approximately 4:10 a.m. Friday to the scene near the intersection of 230th Street and Mahogany Avene, about a mile southwest of Swan Lake State Park. Firefighters were on-scene for more than two hours working to extinguish the blaze. Hannasch says it appears a trash fire from Thursday evening reignited in the overnight hours and spread due to the high winds. Much of the state remains at a high fire risk due to the persistent dry conditions. Fortunately, that risk should dissipate somewhat this weekend with rain and possibly snow in the forecast.
