A farmer from Guthrie County is in serious condition after sustaining severe burns to almost half his body while fighting a field fire last week near Bagley. First responders were dispatched to the site, about a mile east of town on Iowa Highway 141, at approximately 10 a.m. last Thursday. According to authorities, 69-year-old Alex Krueger was trying to reign in a field fire that had spread out of control due to high winds at the time. Krueger was using his tractor to create a firebreak when the tractor’s fuel lines ignited, causing the vehicle to become fully engulfed in flames. Krueger managed to escape the tractor on his own and call for help. He received treatment at the scene before being airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Krueger was later transported to the University of Iowa Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
