Alcohol was suspected to be a contributing factor in a single-vehicle accident yesterday (Thursday) in Jefferson. According to the Jefferson Police Department, A 2008 Buick Enclave, owned and operated by Gerson Abraham Serrano Gomez of Jefferson, was heading southbound on North Elm Street. Authorities say Gomez’s vehicle struck a tree on the west side of Elm Street and slid across the roadway, coming to rest on the east side of the street. Gomez was taken by Greene County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the Greene County Medical Center Emergency Room (ER) for suspected minor injuries. The Gomez Enclave was a total loss in the accident and needed to be towed from the scene. The Jefferson Police Department suspects alcohol played a role in the incident and gathered evidence for testing. Charges are pending the return of test results.
