Patriot Peak Foundation To Bring Authentic Vietnam-Era Huey Back To Carroll County In September

In 2021, an authentic Vietnam-era UH-1 helicopter, more commonly known as a Huey, visited Carroll County, offering a unique experience for locals, and that opportunity is returning to the area later this year thanks to the Patriot Peak Foundation. The non-profit group was founded to reform community connections in response to increasing division throughout the nation. They worked with Alabama-based Friends of Army Aviation several years ago to bring the Huey to Carroll County, and Mike Wendl, who sits on the Patriot Peak Foundation Board of Directors, says they are excited to bring them back to Iowa in September.

With only one day in the Carroll area, Wendl expects tickets to go quickly. He says those interested in a one-of-a-kind helicopter ride should book their tickets sooner rather than later.

Pre-paid tickets will take priority, and tickets will only be offered the day of the event if they are not booked out already. Wendl says transporting and operating the Huey is an expensive endeavor, and they are still searching for businesses interested in helping sponsor the Friends of Army Aviation.

Several sponsorship levels exist and range from as little as $100 to over $1,500. Links with more information on how to support the Patriot Peak Foundation and the Friends of Army Aviation or to purchase your tickets are included with this story on our website. The Huey will also be in Ames on Sept. 1, 3, 4, and 5, and in Boone on Sept. 2, 7, 8, and 9.
